Southstar CDC Individual Development Account (IDA) program participant, Ms. Trista Tisdale, was one of four metro-Atlanta recipients of the
Warrick Dunn Foundation's "Homes for the Holidays" $5,000 downpayment assistance grant. The generous gift from the Warrick Dunn Foundation augmented the downpayment assistance received from Ms. Tisdale's participation in the Southstar CDC IDA program sponsored by the
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta .
Ms. Tisdale is a 28-year-old single mother that has long dreamed of a stable and secure future for herself and her 5-year-old daughter. After completing 10 financial literacy classes facilitated by Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS) and fulfilling the obligations of her two-year matched savings plan, she was able to utilize her downpayment assistance from the IDA program and the added bonus provided by the Warrick Dunn Foundation to become the proud owner of a wonderful new townhome in Decatur, GA.
Through the "Homes for the Holidays" program, Atlanta Falcons Tailback, Warrick Dunn, helps single mothers become first-time homeowners by providing $5,000 in down-payment assistance and furnishings to aid in the purchase of a new home. Mr. Dunn launched the program during his rookie season in 1997, when he made down-payments on four houses in Tampa, FL. He expanded the effort in 1998 to benefit families in his hometown of Baton Rouge, LA and again in 2002 in his new home, Atlanta, GA.
Program participants of AHAND member organizations CHARIS Community Housing and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity also received downpayment assistance through the Warrick Dunn Foundation's "Homes for the Holidays" program. Congratulations to each of this year's deserving recipients!
