June 16th 2003: Deadline to apply for a 2003 MetLife Foundation Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing

In partnership with the MetLife Foundation, The Enterprise Foundation is pleased to announce the MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing. The awards program recognizes 501(c)(3) community-based or regional nonprofit organizations and Tribes or Tribally Designated Housing Entities that excel in property and asset management or provide housing to people with special needs.

Awards will be presented in two categories: Supportive Housing and Property and Asset Management, and the prize money may be used to cover any of the needs of the winning organizations.
· First place winners will receive $25,000.
· Second place winners receive $15,000.
· Third place winners receive $10,000.

The application must be completed online by Monday, June 16, 2003. Supporting documentation must be mailed to The Enterprise Foundation, postmarked by the same date, faxes will not be accepted.

MetLife Foundation

Established in 1976 by MetLife, MetLife Foundation supports health, education, civic and cultural programs throughout the United States. An emphasis of the Foundation's current giving is promoting development and quality management of affordable housing, including housing with supportive social services.

The Enterprise Foundation

The mission of The Enterprise Foundation is to see that all low-income people in the United States have the opportunity for fit and affordable housing, and to move up and out of poverty into the mainstream of American life.

Program Overview

The goals of the program are to:

· Showcase models of excellence in the design and management of affordable housing and the operation of supportive housing for special needs populations.
· Increase the understanding of how to achieve success in providing supportive housing for special needs populations.
· Increase the understanding of the role of the owner, asset manager, property manager and tenants in developing, maintaining and operating housing.
· Provide an unrestricted financial award for agencies that exhibit excellence in asset and/or property management and the provision of special needs housing.
· Disseminate model supportive housing and property management programs through publications and Enterprise website, www.enterprisefoundation.org.

Application

Applicants must submit the following documents in order to qualify for consideration for the MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing:

A. Online application (due June 16, 2003 at midnight)
B. Mailed information (Must be postmarked by June 16, 2003)
· Submit by mail the Organization Certification (doc,pdf) to verify accuracy of information in the application.
· Organization charts or lists of staff positions for applicant and property manager (if different)
· At least six photographs (not copies or digital photos) of the project and its residents (include entrance, entire building, surrounding buildings). Please provide descriptions of photos.
