The Georgia Alliance for Workforce Development (GAWD) will hold its 2nd Annual Education Symposium on April 23 and 24, 2003 at the Loudermilk Conference Center, 40 Courtland Street in downtown Atlanta.

The event will begin on Tuesday, April 23 from 1-4pm with our first ever CBO Expo which provides metro area CBO’s and other interested groups that provide support services to exhibit their organizations, share their resources and information regarding their programs and most important, NETWORK .NETWORK, NETWORK!!!

The Executive Director/Employer Breakfast on Thursday, April 24 from 7:30AM until 9:00AM kicks off day 2. The Symposium itself begins at 9:00 AM on Thursday, immediately following the Breakfast. One of the highlights of the Symposium will be a panel discussion titled “Preparing Georgia’s 21st Century Workforce”. We have invited Thomas Meredith, Chancellor, University System of Georgia, Ken Breeden, Commissioner of Technical and Adult Education, Michael Thurmond, Commissioner of Labor and Kathy Cox, State Superintendent of Schools to discuss this topic as it relates to their specific areas of workforce development.

GAWD’s annual Education Symposium is a training and development conference for the staffs of Georgia’s community-based organizations. In addition to the topics mentioned above, the Symposium will feature an economic forecast by a prominent economist, a luncheon addressed by a key elected official and an afternoon loaded with workshops designed to help the line staff of our CBO members become more proficient in performing their daily tasks. Last year nearly 150 individuals came from as far away as Bainbridge and Valdosta to attend the Symposium. This year it has been expanded to two days and promises to be even bigger and better.
